Bold takeaway: Three Alabama starters enter SEC Championship week as questionable, creating doubt about their availability for the big game. But here's where it gets nuanced: even if they don’t play this Saturday, the program expects them to be ready in the near future.
Alabama’s initial availability report on Wednesday listed Jam Miller (running back), Josh Cuevas (tight end), and Kam Dewberry (offensive lineman) as questionable for the SEC Championship Game. Head coach Kalen DeBoer offered an update during Thursday’s pregame press conference, outlining where each player stands as Alabama approaches kickoff weekend.
“Jam is still questionable. We’ll see what happens in the next couple of days,” DeBoer said. “Kam Dewberry is progressing through the week. Josh Cuevas, the same as Jam. We’ll assess again at the end of the week.
“I know those guys will be good to go a couple weeks down the road. But one week out from last week’s game, given the injuries that occurred, we’re not fully certain yet. They’re improving and doing everything they can.”
Injury notes from recent games:
- Miller exited the Auburn game in the fourth quarter with a lower-leg injury and was seen on crutches on the sideline after the game.
- Cuevas has missed Alabama’s last two contests due to a practice injury ahead of the Eastern Illinois game on Nov. 22.
- Dewberry played the entire Auburn game last week without incident.
Game day details: Kickoff for the SEC Championship between Alabama and Georgia is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Central Time on ABC this Saturday, December 6.
