In an impressive display of teamwork and skill, Anfernee Simons poured in 27 points while Payton Pritchard contributed 21, leading the Boston Celtics to a comfortable 115-101 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.
The Celtics showcased their defensive prowess by limiting the Bulls to just 33 points in the first half of the game. Neemias Queta played a significant role as well, notching a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. This win marks Boston’s fourth consecutive victory and their eighth win out of the last nine games, solidifying their strong performance this season.
On the other hand, Jaylen Brown struggled to find his rhythm, finishing the night with 14 points on a challenging 6-of-24 shooting. This was a stark contrast to his previous game, where he impressively matched his career-high by scoring 50 points against the Los Angeles Clippers just a few days earlier.
For the Bulls, Matas Buzelis stood out with a team-high of 26 points, but despite his efforts, the team faced their second straight loss, having previously suffered a defeat against Charlotte. The Bulls were particularly hindered by the absence of their leading scorer, Josh Giddey, who was sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
The Celtics dominated the game early, holding a substantial 21-point lead at halftime. Although the Bulls made a slight comeback in the final five minutes, it wasn’t enough to threaten Boston’s control of the match. At one point, Chicago managed to trim the deficit to 106-96 thanks to Nikola Vucevic’s timely three-pointer with just over three minutes remaining. However, they didn’t break the 100-point barrier until the final minute of play.
Boston’s defense was effective throughout the first half, keeping the Bulls on their heels. After finishing the first quarter with a 17-point lead, the Celtics extended their advantage to 49-27 with a jumper from Brown in the lane. Pritchard capped off the half with a fadeaway three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the teams into the locker room with a score of 54-33.
Interestingly, the Bulls were on the verge of setting a team record for the fewest points scored in a half, with only 23 points — a record set back in 1999 against Miami — before Jevon Carter hit two late three-pointers to provide some relief. Chicago struggled significantly from beyond the arc, missing 20 of their first 23 attempts, while the Celtics fared slightly better with 5 successful three-point shots out of 19 attempts. Notably, this was the lowest number of points the Celtics had allowed in a first half throughout the season.
Looking ahead, the Bulls are set to face the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, while the Celtics will host the Denver Nuggets that same day as part of their four-game homestand.
