Kreutzmann took to social media to share his memories of meeting Weir back in the mid-1960s. At that time, Weir and Jerry Garcia were part of a group called Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions. Kreutzmann reminisced, saying, "Together, we embarked on a journey without a destination." He emphasized that their intentions were never about seeking fame, transforming the world, or even establishing a counterculture; they were simply unaware that such things were within reach and would have likely downplayed them even if they had been aware. "Well, not too much, anyway. Just enough to dream," he added, hinting at their youthful naivety and ambitions.
Reflecting on their early rehearsals, Kreutzmann shared a nostalgic glimpse into their past, noting how he and Weir would share moments in the back alley of a music shop, enjoying some light-hearted fun while smoking joints. He revealed, "We had to be careful because it was still taboo back then." As the younger members of the band, they relished in playful antics and silliness, emphasizing a carefree spirit that defined their early days together.
Kreutzmann continued to recount their escapades throughout the years, highlighting some particularly amusing memories from their time in Haight-Ashbury. He recalled, "Bob and I used to enjoy throwing water balloons at each other, so one day we started throwing them at the tourist buses. That didn’t end well... but it brings a smile to my face all these years later."
