The Amateur Status Review Committee (ASRC) has unveiled a groundbreaking proposal: the 'Inter-County Certification Programme'. This initiative aims to safeguard the GAA's amateur status by setting clear standards and conditions for inter-county competitions. The programme addresses the rising costs and unsustainable demands on players and volunteers, which threaten the Association's amateur identity. The ASRC's comprehensive process involved numerous meetings, consultations, and an online survey, revealing a consensus on the need for action. The proposed programme has two phases: Pre-Season and In-Season, with conditions covering team management, expenditure, player welfare, and data recording. The ASRC's findings highlight the absence of a modern governance structure as the primary issue, emphasizing the importance of implementing basic standards to protect the GAA's amateur status. This initiative, supported by the Central Council and Annual Congress, aims to ensure the GAA's future as an amateur organization, fostering a competitive and sustainable environment for all counties.
