Lee Corso National Championship Game: Will He Be There for Indiana? (2026)

A beloved figure will be missing from the sidelines. Despite the exciting matchup between the Indiana Hoosiers and the Miami Hurricanes in the national championship game, fans won't see the legendary Lee Corso on the field. Given his deep connection to the Indiana football program, many anticipated his presence at Hard Rock Stadium.

As of Friday, all signs point to Corso watching the game from his Florida home. ESPN's Jen Lada first shared the news, reporting that the 90-year-old is enthusiastic about the Hoosiers' journey. He coached the team from 1973 to 1982.

"Talked to Coach Corso this morning & he is obviously THRILLED about the Hoosiers’ trip to the National Championship Game. Will watch from his Florida home," Lada posted on X. She added that Corso is a big fan of Fernando Mendoza and noted how far the team has come since their first bowl win, the Holiday Bowl, which Corso coached in 1979.

Saturday Down South's Connor O’Gara also reported that Corso's former College GameDay colleague, Chris Fallica, confirmed Corso's absence.

But here's where it gets controversial... Considering Corso's age, it's understandable that he'd prefer watching from home. However, his absence won't diminish the significance of an Indiana victory. It would be a storybook ending to a season that began with Corso's retirement from the College GameDay set.
