No Law: Cyberpunk Open-World FPS from The Ascent Developers - Gameplay, Story & Release Date (2026)

No Law is not just another cyberpunk shooter—it's Neon Giant's bold claim to redefine open-world war zones with a personal, noir-flavored twist. The studio behind The Ascent has unveiled No Law, a first-person RPG shooter set in a richly textured cyberpunk city, and it’s headed to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The reveal came during The Game Awards 2025, showing Port Desire as a vivid, Unreal Engine 5-created playground where danger and opportunity lurk around every neon corner.

You’ll control Grey Harker, a former military veteran who’s traded a brutal past for a quieter life—until the past catches up. With his black-ops instincts and bespoke hardware, Harker is determined to reclaim what was stolen from him and confront the city that wronged him.

If you want a glimpse, watch the No Law reveal trailer to see Port Desire in all its electric grime and beauty. Neon Giant describes the game as a cyber-noir narrative that puts a premium on player choice: whether you prioritize precision, stealth, or aggressive force, your method shapes the entire experience.

A press release teases a roster of advanced military upgrades, experimental sci-fi tools, and vertical movement that let you redefine every mission as a personal saga of revenge, consequence, and survival. Port Desire is depicted as a sprawling, cliffside port saturated with neon, decadence, and murky motives. The city hums with life—from rooftop gardens to shadowy back alleys—and every inch is said to respond to your decisions.

Screenshots offer another look at Port Desire’s atmosphere and density.

Ahead of the reveal, I spoke with Neon Giant’s co-founder and creative director Tor Frick and co-founder Arcade Berg about the game. They emphasized that The Ascent taught them the importance of immersion and environmental storytelling: games can convey a lot through setting, art, and NPC conversations without relying solely on words or explicit text.

Cyberpunk as a setting appeals to the studio because it allows actions to feel meaningful within a coherent fiction. Frick notes that they want the world to fit the game’s needs and to evoke familiar, tongue-in-cheek vibes—like Judge Dredd or The Running Man—while keeping the mood grounded in a tangible, lived-in city.

Berg adds that the violence in No Law is meant to be a spectacle—fun and cathartic—rather than bleak or oppressive. The goal is for players to feel powerful, to smile at the expressiveness of combat, and to experience a responsive world that notices the player’s choices and behavior.

Describing No Law as cyber-noire, the developers highlight its pacing and mood: moments to soak in the atmosphere, coupled with a detective-like mystery woven into the story. The team stresses that No Law is distinct from Cyberpunk 2077 in scale and focus. Frick explains that Port Desire will be densely packed and intimate, not a sprawlingly massive open world, with a design emphasis on personal storytelling within a lush urban canvas.

Frick also notes that Harker’s story is just one thread in Port Desire’s tapestry, with the city hosting many overlapping narratives. Berg adds that the game aims for a more human and intimate experience, supported by stylish, deliberate choices in presentation.

Neon Giant frames No Law as a signature extension of their identity: a compact, character-driven cyberpunk experience that still carries the studio’s distinctive personality—an evolution from The Ascent rather than a complete departure.

The game is published by Krafton and is planned for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC at a future date.

In the meantime, you can read Game Informer's review of The Ascent for a sense of Neon Giant’s brand of immersive, world-driven storytelling. What’s your take on No Law’s reveal—does this blend of cyber-noir mood and personal storytelling grab you, or do you favor a broader open world? Share your thoughts in the comments.
