Catherine, the Princess of Wales, used a Christmas message to remind guests at her Westminster Abbey carol concert that small, compassionate acts are powerful in shaping lives. In a letter shared with the 1,600 attendees, she praised the often unseen time, care, and empathy people offer—without expecting anything in return—and highlighted how these simple gestures create real differences for others.
The Abbey event will be a traditional Christmas program, with carols performed in the festive setting and readings from notable performers like Hannah Waddingham and Kate Winslet. Among the attendees will be Royal Family members, volunteers, and local community champions who have gone above and beyond in their service.
Catherine’s message frames Christmas as a time when love takes tangible, human form—not through grand gestures or nostalgia, but through everyday acts: listening, comforting words, friendly conversations, a helping hand, and simply being present with others. The princess has been making public appearances again after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, including her first public speech in two years.
Before guests enter Westminster Abbey, music will be performed for young people supported by the Future Talent charity, which was co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent, who passed away this autumn. The duchess devoted herself to expanding access to music education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Among those invited are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died from a brain tumour; they founded Kayleigh’s Wee Stars to support families facing terminal illness in a child. Also attending is Saphia Turner, nine, winner of the BBC Make a Difference Young Hero Award, who raises funds for food banks through art sales and sponsored challenges.
As the year ends, Catherine expressed hope that the season would bring moments of peace and clarity, and that attendees would feel enveloped by the same love and care they freely offer to others.
Separately on Tuesday, MPs on the Public Accounts Committee released details about royal leases, including Prince William and Catherine’s new home, Forest Lodge in Windsor. The documents show a 20-year Crown Estate lease with market rent set by independent valuers. The Committee plans to open an inquiry next year into the Crown Estate and royal property, prompted by questions surrounding Prince Andrew’s arrangements at Royal Lodge.
