"The incompetency I spoke of was a general issue, a person like that can ruin any institution. My hint was not towards Mohsin Naqvi, but the top brass running the show. The TV channel twisted my words!" Akhtar exclaimed. He even went on to say that he believes Naqvi is a good guy who wants to help Pakistani cricket, but he's not getting the right guidance.
But why the sudden change of heart? Akhtar admitted he was angry with Naqvi, but not for his management of the PCB. Instead, his frustration stemmed from Naqvi's U-turn on the boycott stance against India in the T20 World Cup. Akhtar felt Naqvi should have consulted him before changing his position.
In his initial comments on ABP News, Akhtar had been very clear: "A person like Mohsin Naqvi is not fit to be the chairman of the PCB. If I were made the chairman of a channel, I wouldn't know how to run it! Now we have someone who doesn't know, yet he's the chairman. How will the team function like this?"
He went further, stating, "The biggest crime is giving a big job to an incompetent and illiterate person."
During the ARY News chat, Akhtar also addressed the criticism faced by Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi after the India match. He claimed that Babar is not suited for T20 cricket and Shaheen seems unfit to bowl at high speeds. He added that Shadab Khan's selection was unusual and that Pakistan's cricket infrastructure needs an overhaul.
"Everyone is to blame - the board, the media, and even me. We picked the wrong people and made them stars without investing in the right infrastructure."
